What documents do I need to open an account?
As part of our compliance process, we are required to verify your identity. Before we activate your account, we will need following documents:
- Proof of identity – A valid passport, national ID card, driving licence or any government issued document.
- Proof of address – Acceptable documents include utility bills, local authority tax bills, or bank statements. The document must be in your name and no older than 6 months (3 months for South Africa resident). Proof of residence issued on PO boxes will NOT be accepted.
Please be advised that documents must be clear and readable with no flash or obstruction. Cropped, blurred or low quality/resolution documents are not acceptable.
Documents must also be in good condition with no sign of damage or alteration.
How to request an additional account?
Once your account profile has been approved by ThinkMarkets, to create additional accounts login to ThinkPortal and select Create Live Account from the Quick Actions section. Here you'll be able to instantly create additional accounts.
How long does it take to open an account?
Account opening times vary by client, but provided you’ve supplied your documents and they are acceptable, you should receive your login details within 24 hours.

What different account types are there?
For CFD and Cash Equities accounts, we offer:
- Individual account
- Joint account
- Corporate account

Does a demo account expire?
Yes, demo accounts do expire, if you do not place any trades for 30 days.
Demo accounts for the MT4/MT5 will expire after 30 days, if there is inactivity.
Demo accounts for the ThinkTrader platform will also expire after 30 days of inactivity, however if you would like to continue your demo account access, you will need to open a live trading account. With a live trading account, you also have access to more demo accounts.
Can I change my demo account settings?
Yes, we can change demo account settings like leverage and we can also adjust your demo account balance if required. For any of these requests please visit us on Live Chat or email support@thinkmarkets.com.
If you would like to change the demo account base currency, you will need to create another demo account.
If you would like to change the demo account type on MT4/MT5, please contact us on Live Chat or email: support@thinkmarkets.com.
How do I close my account?
To close your trading account, please use your registered email address and send an official request for account closure to email support@thinkmarkets.com.
Please provide your trading account number and the reason you wish to close your account with us.
Can I suspend my account?
Please provide your trading account number and the reason you wish to suspend your trading account with us.
I've closed my account by mistake, how can I reopen it?
If you already closed your account, unfortunately we cannot reopen it again. In this case, you need to open additional new account directly from ThinkPortal.
Can I retrieve an old account?
Unfortunately, it is not possible. Your live account is automatically archived if your balance is 0 after 90 days of inactivity and already archived account, it cannot be retrieved. If you want to trade again, you need to open additional new account from ThinkPortal.
